Celebrating Cinco De Mayo!
Happy Cinco De Mayo! If you’re not Mexican, don’t fret … I’m going to offer some suggestions on how to celebrate this day, even if you’re at work and can’t get around to having a sip of sangria. Why don’t you consider having a party this weekend and make it Mexican themed? Send an e-vite to your closest pals and start your planning! First thing’s first: You have to have good booze, guys. Select a fruity wine that would go well with fruit (I suggest orange slices, grapes, apples and pears). Yes, I’m talking about concocting your very own sangria! Make sure to add the fruit to the mix at least a night before the party so that all the fruit soaks up the alcohol. Next thing you have to purchase is your favourite South American cerveza (beer…duh!). I suggest purchasing a keg or a few dozen cases of Corona and a whole-LOTTA lime! Slice the limes into wedges and put them in a festive bowl. What can you do for food? Well, since this is a pre-summer event, I suggest firing up your grill. Since this holiday marks the Mexican victory over the French, you may want to be super festive and concoct fajitas that consist of pork, beef, and lamb. Slice n’ dice these meats into strips, throw on some seasoning (McCormick seasonings work best) and barbecue these puppies for a tasty delight. Serve the meat with an array of pitas, tortillas, and you can even throw in some taco shells to the mix for fun. You also should provide hot sauce, sour cream, diced tomatoes and lettuce, and various shredded South American cheeses. Since it’s a barbecue, you may also want to think about grilling hamburgers and hot dogs. Don’t forget the chips and salsa … duh! Last but not least: travel to your local party supply store and pick up sombreros to mount on chairs and fences, and other festive pieces of your choice. Follow these tips and you’re sure to have a smokin’ fiesta!
